I should add that none of this is necessary to join a game, just to host.1.

Other ways to get around this include bypassing your router completely, or turning on DMZ (which basically says, send EVERYTHING to my computer- not recommended for a Windows machine!) But my router didn't make it crystal clear and I was perplexed when I saw in my log that players were still being rejected.

A good router will tell you this when you apply the change. Here's the bit I forget to do: the router will probably need to be restarted after this change. If the router doesn't ask, it's going to do both. Some routers let you choose UDP or TCP Battlefront uses UDP. For example, my router assigns all the "inside" computers an IP address like 192.168.0.X, so if my Mac is 192.168.0.100, I would forward 3658 to "100".

This is often not a full IP address, but just the last part of it. So one of the parameters is the port (or port range) to forward, and another parameter should be which machine inside the firewall to forward it to. In general you are telling the router that when it gets a packet on port 3658, to forward it to your machine inside the firewall. I can't give you specific instructions for your router without seeing the screens. If people tried to join and failed, you will see that your router rejected some packets for port 3658 during the time that you were hosting the game (I believe that's the right port, GameRanger Help will tell you which port it is.) Is called something like "Troubleshooting Hosting" or something similar that explains the concept, and attempts to walk you through it. A good source of information about this is in the Gameranger help there's a menu that People are probably trying to join your game and timing out. Not having any had experience with this before, i have no idea what port range to insert, or what "TCP/UDP" value to assign to that range.ĭo you have any advice on this? Am I talking about the same "port forwarding" that you are?Īny help or insight that you have would be greatly appreciated.Īssuming people aren't ignoring you because of bad ping, this is probably your problem. All of the service port range text fields are set to "0" and all of the "protocol" fields are also set to "0" There are text fields for "service port range" and then a numeric value that you can assign to that range. I have logged onto my router configuration and clicked the "forwarding" tab under the "advanced" tab. The games that I have been able to join have been a complete blast (apart from the somewhat crappy vehicle controls, that is).Īny insight on potential solutions are very, very welcome.Īctually, no I do not have port forwarding set up. Hopefully, these issues can be resolved, or dedicated servers can be established, as this has the potential to be an extreamly cool multiplayer experience. I've even tried seting up a game with a specific "please don't join until X:00 am/pm" so that I have enough time to get the game up and running before people attempt to connect. I'm really just unpopular, and on-line gamers choose not to join the games that I'm hosting. These instructions don't work with my particular setup (1.25 dual G4, ATI 9000, 2GB Ram, DSL connection, Linksys 4-port router)ĭ. I'm an idiot and unable to correctly follow three simple stepsī. I can only imagine four possible causes for this:Ī. I've tried repeating these steps and I can host a game, but I have yet to have anyone else join in.
